Museum Item Massachusetts Militia Civil War Frock Coat
Deaccessioned from the National Heritage Museum, Lexington, Massachusetts, with written documentation from the museum documenting that this frock coat was deaccessioned from the collection.  This frock coat is all original.  The material is navy broadcloth with a sky blue stand up collar.  The coat is thigh length.  Breast buttons with arm and sword marked Mass Militia, coattail pockets, two eagle buttons on coattail and two missing.


           
 
 
 
American bicorn hat with cockade, trim and ostrich feather from the prominent Dyer family of Rhode Island c. late 19th century.

This hat was from a house belonging to the Dyer family of Rhode Island.  Elisha Dyer and his father at one time were Governors of Rhode Island.  The hat is a black beaver bicorn (chapeau de bras).   It has the original beautiful mint condition cockade, black corded trim and original black ostrich feather plume.  Inside the sky blue satin lining and leather band is as so in excellent condition.  The makers mark “Sam’l Masson Jr. 15 Cornhill Boston, Mass” is printed on the lining in gold tone.
